Positive affirmations are a great way to take charge of your life and rewrite your narrative. At some point in every person’s life there will be obstacles and challenges. The word of God says that we combat these challenges by renewing our mind. In Romans 12:2 Paul says we are transformed as we change our thinking or renew our minds.

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:2

When we get struck down by life’s challenges, we have to remind ourselves who Father God says we are. A powerful way to transform your mind (and your life!) is to speak positive affirmations about yourself, your emotions, and your future. The key here is to say these positive affirmations out loud. We can fight back against doubt, fear, worry and anxiety by taking control of our thoughts and setting our minds on the truth.

If the bible says we can be transformed by renewing our minds, which basically means to change our minds, then let’s get after it! After all, what’s on the other side of these negative emotions? Freedom, feeling loved, confidence, acceptance, and peace!! I’m in!

Here are 5 practical ways to incorporate positive affirmations into your life:

#1 Commit to say positive affirmations (out loud!) once a day for 30 days - You can start by committing to the time of day that works best for you. Maybe it’s mornings with a cup of coffee before your day gets started, carving out some time for yourself on your lunch break, or while you’re sitting in car line waiting for your kiddos. I always base my positive affirmations on scripture because of the power of the word of God. I am committed to help you get started, so I’ve also included an example of actual positive affirmations below you can use right away.

#2 Write it down - Writing out your positive affirmations helps you to retain the information better. Even if you use my positive affirmations below, I still encourage you to write them out. You can use index cards, your journal, or your planner. Try it out in your 2022 Dream Planner Collection from Horacio printing!!

# 3 Examine your self talk - Think about what you’re thinking about then combat negativity your positive affirmations. Stop being so hard on yourself!! If you would never talk to someone else the way you talk to yourself then that’s a sign that it’s time for a change. A great tool for this is to start treating yourself nicely with positive self talk just like you would treat your friends.

#4 Give your emotions a seat at the table - Stop stuffing and let yourself feel your feelings. This may seem scary at first but it is SO AMAZING when you just let go and ask your heart what it feels. Jesus gave us our emotions as a guide to navigate our lives and steer us toward Him. He wants to heal any negative emotions you are facing by showing you His truth.

#5 Pray about it! - Whatever you’re facing remember that no matter how difficult it may seem, Jesus has the answer. Prayer is a conversation with you and Him. Start by talking to Him and don’t forget to open your heart to hear what He has to say about your situation. He may lead you to a specific bible verse, speak to you through a friend, or you may hear His voice

After committing to positive affirmations, a little self love and self reflection, then some prayer…you’ll be ready to go!!

Positive Affirmations

Here are some positive affirmations that I use to renew my mind and transform my life. I write down the positive affirmation then the scripture that backs it up. The scripture is key here because we are professing God’s word over our lives and His word has the power to change our circumstances.

  1. I am strong in the Lord today. I receive His strength. I choose to be joyful with singing. Father God has saved me; He is my God and I will praise and honor Him!

The Lord gives me strength and makes me sing; he has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him. He is the God of my ancestors, and I will honor him.

Exodus 15:2

  1. I am not alone. I am with God and I am an overcomer. Greater is Jesus in me, than anything I will face in the world.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

1 John 4:4

  1. I decree and declare that no weapon formed against me will prosper because I am a child of God. And every negative word that rises against me will be condemned by God.

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord .

Isaiah 54:17

  1. I choose to wait on the Lord as He renews my strength. I will pray and He will hear my cry. I will be strong like an eagle. I will run and not grow weary; I will walk and not faint.

But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

  1. I confess with hope that I will (name your victory!). I will not waver while I am in the waiting because I believe that Jesus is faithful and He will come through for me. I receive all of His promises for my life.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
